1957 – Penno soccer club was formed as a result of the Thornleigh Club not being able to accommodate their ever growing numbers, this was instigated by Earl Partridge ( Thornleigh secretary) & Keith Gilmour (GHFA secretary)

Harry Noad & Alf Mitchell set up the club along with Bill McCutcheon – all details as per Brian Thompsons’s record.

Interesting to note we were a soccer club first, then a sporting club, then back to a soccer club, so the 50 year anniversary of Penno Soccer is correct.

Our original venue was Penno No 1 oval

We then acquired Campbell Park

Home games were played at Campbell & Penno High / training at Penno No 1 (lights)

The club became a sports club as other sports ie cricket were added

West Pennant Hills was formed from Penno in the late 60s, and as a result we no longer had a home ground (WPH obtained Campbell Park)

Our main ground throughout the 70s was Penno high

In 1982 we broke away from the sports club, and put forward a proposal to develop Penno No3

While this was being done, some of the club still used Penno High, while the more senior teams ie P/L shared Campbell park as a home ground.

Penno no 3 became a usable field in the season of 1987??

The committee’s of the past raised funds for the lights, and again for the terrace, some of those instrumental in this are– Thompson, Iredale, Henery, Nealer, Gerrard, Ringrose, Sweeney

Throughout the 70s & early 80s, we had an annual gala day with thornleigh, held at Penno No 1 & Penno No 2 ( 2 fields across each ground), some were held at Oakleigh oval as well.

Other club gala days were held at Kotara vs Kotara Bears and at Caringbah vs Caringbah

Some of the grounds we have used over the 50 years are as follows –

Penno No 1 ( P/L used this up to 1984)

Penno High – including the old hockey field

Headon Park

Thomas Thompson ( formerly known as Cedarwood Park) ( P/L 84,85, 86)
